Do you know what to do when a tow truck is on the roadside? This may sound like a silly question, but most people are unaware that every state in the U.S. has what is known as a Slow Down or Move Over law. These laws were created to help reduce the number of roadside fatalities that happen every year from people being struck by passing vehicles.
These laws require drivers to either merge into the other lane or to slow down to 15 mph below the posted speed limit when passing emergency vehicles or workers on the roadside. Police, ambulances and tow truck drivers risk their lives daily to help others and unfortunately, many of them lose their lives doing so each year.
Here at Beaman Toyota, we wanted to make sure that you were aware of these laws so that you can share with others and help make our roads that much safer not just for drivers and passengers but also for the men and women simply trying to do their jobs roadside.
